Originally scored for 16 players, Before Spring – a Tribute to the Rite had its world première in May 2010, in Lisbon, performed by the OrchestrUtopica musicians conducted by Cesário Costa.
It was later revised and scored for symphony orchestra and this new version was premièred in January 2014 by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, with Joana Carneiro (to whom the score is dedicated).
Before Spring will now have its first International performance in the US, at the Pantages Theatre with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and Sarah Ioannides (conductor).
Sarah also gave the first performances of two other compositions by Luís Tinoco, “Invention on Landscape” (with the Remix Ensemble) and “Ascent” (with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra).
