On the 2nd of August, Abel Pereira – Featured Artist at the 45th International Horn Symposium – will give the first performance of Luís Tinoco‘s “Horn Concerto“, a work commissioned by Madam Elsa Pestana Magalhães in the memory of her father, the notable Portuguese Horn player Adácio Pestana (1925-2004) and dedicated to Abel Pereira. The première of this new concerto (2013) will take place at the Rose Theatre – University of Memphis, in Memphis, US., during the International Horn Symposium.
Abel Pereira – who will be joined by the Eroica Ensemble conducted by maestro Michael Gilbert - received at the hands of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Bernard Haitink and Prof. Lutz Kohler the 1998 European Master-Prize. Between 2010 and 2012, he was first horn guest of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He is professor at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon and the Escola Superior de Musica, Artes e Espetáculo in Porto and Horn section Chief at the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música.
