The first one, The Drift of the Waters for wind quartet was premièred in 2001 by the Gulbenkian Orchestra Soloists and later recorded on CD by the Galliard Ensemble. Click here to listen to one movement.
It will now be performed by the Assai Quartet at the Cupertino Miranda Foundation, in Famalicão. The Assai musicians are Marco Pereira (flute); Hugo Ribeiro (oboe); Cândida Oliveira (clarinet); and Lurdes Carneiro (bassoon).
The second one, Zapping – for orchestra, was premièred in 2004 by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Donato Renzetti, following a commission from the S.Carlos Theatre to celebrate Mozart and Haydn’s last symphonies. The work includes a series of quotations from these (and a few other) composers, “zapping” through different styles and music periods. It will now be performed by the ESART orchestra and José Eduardo Gomes at the Arade Congress Centre, in the Algarve.
